What are the factors that are attracting people to Basildon?

A recently conducted survey by CBRE suggests that Basildon is London commuter belt’s most affordable town. Trains from London’s Fenchurch Street reach Basildon in just around 35 minutes. Plus, the city is affordable for home-buyers, as the average price for a home in the area is £ 176,886. The annual railway ticket pass for this route is £3,748.

Real estate experts also suggest that a considerable number of people from Basildon work in London. These people travel using trains or via roads like A13 and A127. They reach their destination, London, in just about 35 to 40 minutes. This is the reason that people from the working class, as well as students from London’s colleges,  are choosing Basildon to buy and rent properties. The town is also home to more than nine schools and three colleges. South Essex College is the most popular one.

CBRE’s researcher Jennet Siebrits recently interacted with journalists. She highlighted the point that areas like Harlow, Luton, and Basildon are the most preferred destinations for people working in London.

According to real estate group Smith Latcher Property’s Dave Smith, Basildon was constructed after Second World War to rehabilitate people from East London. Dave pointed out that the town has a hospital, shopping centers, open spaces, and parks. He also said that property rates are less in this area as the government constructed most of the houses.

Several developmental projects in pipeline

Basildon Council officials recently said that the Basildon town center would be revamped and authorities will spend £39 million for the same. The town also made it in the headlines when Essex County officials received an application from TLM waste management to set up 24-hour waste management site. The proposal suggests that this site can handle around 75,000 tons of waste annually and generate several jobs as well.

A sizeable residential project is also expected to start if South Essex College authorities seal the deal with developers who wish to construct more than 700 homes at college’s Dry Street property.
