Tourists return home from Car Nicobar with a rewarding experience

Car Nicobar is an island that’s part of India’s chain of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The small island offers idyllic beaches, friendly people, and dense vegetation that can force tourists to extend their stay.   It is also home to the Indian Air Force’s base which was completely destroyed with almost everything on the island due to tsunami back in December 2014.

About Car Nicobar Airport

The island’s Car Nicobar Air Force Base also serves as its airport. Currently, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Administration and the Indian Air Force operate two flights between Port Blair and Campbell Bay via Car Nicobar. At one point, Air India use to offer direct flights to this island from various Indian cities. But, the flight remains withdrawn since 2016. So, travelers can book a trip to Port Blair Airport (Veer Savarkar International Airport) and then use a helicopter or a chartered flight operated by the Indian Air Force to reach the Car Nicobar Airport.

Attractions in and around Car Nicobar

The tiny island is a perfect place for water sports lovers. Tourists can enjoy surfing, diving, and snorkelling along with other water sports. As attractions are several kilometers away from each other, exploring Car Nicobar and other island attractions require proper guidance and planning. Plus, tourists also need a special permit to enter some parts of Car Nicobar. So, advice from a local tour operator is necessary. Tourists can avail ship or cruise service to travel from one island to the other.

Amazing is probably the best word to describe the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. It is located on the Andaman Island. The park is made up of more than 15 small and large islands and open sea creeks. Barren Island is home to South Asia’s only active volcano. Besides, it is also considered as one of the best destinations for scuba diving around the world.

  • The Cellular Jail

No matter whichever island from Andaman Nicobar Island(s) tourists plan to visit, they should surely visit the Cellular Jail at Port Blair before heading back home. The jail was specially constructed by the British administration to keep Indian political prisoners in isolation.

Seafood lovers can enjoy crabs, prawns, lobsters, fishes, squids, and oysters. Instead of opting for a hotel, tourists should prefer eating at the shacks nearby beaches or local joints. Locals use traditional cooking style and old customs while cooking, so, local joints can offer the real taste. Travelers can easily find local joints and shacks on every Island.  Continental and Asian cuisine are available at hotels in Port Blair.
