Salman and Sooraj Barjatya are back together for creating Hum Apke Hai Kaun like magic on big screen. But some Bollywood pundits are not sure if fans would accept Salman as Sooraj’s Prem.
Sooraj Barjatya is famous for creating characters that show simplicity, Indian traditional values, and joint family culture. He is famous as a director who makes family oriented movies with soulful music. Out of his six movies, Salman has played lead character- Prem, in four of them (including PRDP). Now, both are back together after 1999s Hum Sath Sath Hai. Reports suggest that the director has spent three years in developing PRDP’s story.
The film’s music composed by Himesh Reshammiya has gained positive reviews. Salman and Sonam can be seen donning a traditional look in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Salman’s fans who are in their 30s and above won’t feel amazed with his traditional look and glimpse of PRDP in the film’s promos. But the actor’s fans in teenage or in their 20s would probably start thinking about their favorite actor’s character in the movie. Even some journalists have expressed their unhappiness about Salman’s entry scene songs in PRDP.
Now that everyone is habited to watch Salman playing street smart and intelligent characters, some fans may find it difficult to accept the same actor as simple, nice, innocent, Prem from 90s. Both, Sooraj and Salman agree that bringing back that old Prem in Salman took a lot of effort.
During his recent interaction with journalists, and in the making of PRDP, the 49-year-old actor said that he did PRDP because he has full faith in the script and its director. While sharing his opinion about Sooraj’s film-making, the actor said- “Sooraj Barjatya kept his style of movie-making same after Hum Saath Saath Hai, and made Main Prem Ki Deewani Hu, Vivah. But as an actor, I worked in different direction with intelligent, extra cautious, and street smart charters in films like Ready, Wanted, Veer, Dabang.”
Getting back that innocence, niceness for Sooraj’s character was definitely difficult. Surprisingly, Salman agreed that playing his character Alok Raj (Big B’s adopted son) in Baghban was also difficult. His role was appreciated by all, but the actor claims his own father Salim Khan tagged his performance as artificial.
Journal 24 hopes that it would break Salman’s previous success records. Now, it is up to the audiences to decide if to appreciate their super smart Salman as Sooraj’s Prem or not.
