E Ahamed was the Union Minister of state for External Affairs and Human Resource Development ministry in Manmohan Singh’s government. The Lok Sabha MP also served as Union Minister of state for Railways between 2009 and 2011.

E Ahamed was famous in the External Affairs ministry due to his contacts and relations with officials and heads of state in various Gulf countries. But, he was not as revolutionary as Sushma Swaraj of course.

In 2009, he came under the scanner for allegedly favoring a private travel agency in handling the Haj quota. When asked about the charges of favoring specific Haj tour operators in Kerala, E Ahamed called it a political vendetta.

The 78-year-old MP started his career as a lawyer before joining politics, and he also wrote three books on his political journey.

E Ahamed hit the headlines when Indian Union Muslim League’s General Secretary, A S Fatima Muzaffer filed a petition in Delhi High Court against him. She had also urged the court to instruct Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar to disqualify him as MP in March 2012. According to the petitioners, E Ahamed was a member of Muslim League Kerala State Committee (MLKSC) and the Indian Union Muslim league while contesting Lok Sabha polls in 2009. After this, E Ahamed interacted with media and clarified that the EC had already approved the merger of his MLKSC with the IUML at the time of going to the polls.

E Ahamed completed five terms as an MLA in Kerala state Assembly between 1967 and 1991. He has also worked as a cabinet minister for Industries in the Kerala state Government. E Ahmad contested and won all the Lok Sabha polls between 1991 and 2014 from various Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala. He was representing the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency as its MP since 2014. May God help his soul to rest in peace.
