Several mobile phone networks in the United States are using 3G spectrum to increase their 4G network’s capacity. This move helps networks to avoid congestion and speed up their network. According to some recent reports published by CNN and Gigaom, Verizon is doing just that!
Experts suggest that considerable percentage of Verizon’s customers use 4G / LTE network. Mobile phone networks (including Verizon) started adapting 4G network since the arrival of Apple’s 4G enabled, iPhone 5 back in 2012.
Gartner research’s Ken Dulaney recently interacted with journalists and shared his opinion that 2G, 3G networks are slower and use much more spectrum compared to 4G. This is the reason that networks want all their customers to move on 4G with time. They might even offer free 4G device upgrades for people using 2G, 3G supported handsets.
Dulaney has predicted that networks might get rid of 3G network completely by 2018.
