Still living single? Same here.  And I am sick of people knocking on the front door or ringing the door bell while I am in the bathroom. These visitors fail to realize that I live alone. There’s no one else to answer the door you idiots. No worries, here’s how you can prevent people from knocking the front door while you’re in the bathroom.

1. Simply ignore the knocking: Yes, this one is my favorite. If it’s not urgent or expected, simply ignore the knocking. Most visitors will assume you’re not home or occupied and will leave after a while.
2. Doorbell camera unit: If you’re comfortable with smart home tech, a doorbell camera allows you to talk to whoever’s there, explaining you’ll be out shortly. But you’d need a way to answer the doorbell from inside the bathroom, and installing an additional answering device can help.
3. Hang a DND-Do Not Disturb sign on the door: Yes, it’s common, and you won’t have to spend much money. Such sign on a door indicates that the person inside wants privacy and prefers not to be interrupted.
4. Communicate: Let them know beforehand: If you’re expecting someone to visit, let them know in advance that you’ll be using the bathroom and won’t be able to answer the door immediately. Message them, ask them to wait patiently.
5. Timing: Try to plan your bathroom breaks during times when you’re not expecting visitors or deliveries. This reduces the likelihood of someone knocking on your door while you’re indisposed. But trust me, this doesn’t work, because we certainly cannot control the nature’s call, can we?

You can consider using any of these ideas for managing unexpected visitors while living alone. Personally, I prefer ignoring the knocking or hanging a DND sign on the door. Yes, I often communicate and message expected visitors in advance if I decide to answer the nature’s call for five to ten minutes. But this doesn’t work, and they keep on knocking, disturbing my comfort and privacy.
